No finals for Corrie

To continue NCRV's Voluntair of the Netherlands

Friday 30 November was anounced that Corrie van Hugten did not reach the finals for the title ' Voluntair of the Netherlands'. But also the other candidates, who go to the finals, are very good cv's.

In the meantime this radioprogram was an interesting way to get wheelchair dancing in publicity. And Corrie, myself and many others received loads of e-mail messages. It was a cheerfull time.

Many thanks to everybody for voting and reacting to us !,

You can again listen to the radioprogram via: Wheelchair Dancing.eu.

Vote for Corrie

Thanks to all your votes (!) Corrie won the first round, in the province of Noord-Holland, last september. Now twelve candidates are left.
In the second round, to go from twelve to three, we again need your help!

Monday 26 November (at 15:30 at Radio 5) Maureen will shortly tell why she Corrie (and also Ondine) has introduced for Voluntair of the Netherlands.
On 7 December, international Voluntairy Day, a jury will make a choice out of the three finalists and decide who will be Voluntair of the Netherlands.

Please help to promote wheelchairdancing and put all voluntairs in the picture, who are active for many years giving dancingpleasure in so many groups, and VOTE.

Clinic at information market Aalsmeer

Enthousiasm during clinic wheelchair dance, 10 Nvember 2007

Saterday afternoon we are with eight dancers in the Day Activity Center of Heliomare in Aalsmeer.
Together with severall other organisations we have a stand in the hall. Besides promotion of wheelchair dancing overall we have information available of the dancinggroups in the region (ie. Aalsmeer, Amstelveen, Hoofddorp, Amsterdam etc.)

At 15:00 we start a clinic / workshop wheelchairdancing in the sportingroom. After two dances demonstration we invite people to dance with us. This afternoon not many visitors have come to the market, but everybody acts very enthousiastic. A Slosh, Ten pretty girls and later on the Big Square are danced as if these dances where practiced before already....

Before and after our clinic dancers of Walking Wheels participate in wheelchair tennis, wheelchair hockey, a fitnesstest and whe are happy to try the chairmassage. Although we hoped for more visitors it was a very nice afternoon. And even if we only reached one person for wheelchairdance, it was already worth being here today.

Enjoy with us? Have a look at the pictures.

Voluntair price 2007

500 Euro for eight voluntair organistions, 2 November 2007

This afternoon eight organisations received a voluntair price at the event 'Samen ondernemen geeft meerwaarde'. Prices were made available by Gemeente Haarlemmermeer. The event took place at the marehouse in Hoofddorp and was organised by the 'Vrijwilligerscentrale Haarlemmermeer'.

Click here to enlarge picture... Walking Wheels received one of the prices out of hands of Tom Horn, wethouder Sport. At his question what we planned to do with the 500 euro, Maureen answered that we will add this to the total amount needed to organise a teammatch in May 2008 !

At the end of the afternoon Arnold and Maureen have toasted to the cheque, on behalve of our board.

picture applauding hands Miranda and Ronald start in amateurs combi 2 standard. After the first round, where eleven couples are on the floor, they are placed to the semi finales directly. And after exciting finales, with only six couples left, they end up at second place!

Miranda and Ronald where promoted from debutants to amateurs last season. When you reach a good result like this in a competition you may be proud!

Miranda and Ronald; congratulations !

We have a few pictures of today.

Workshops IJmond onbeperkt

15 October 2007

With six dancers whe drove to the coast of IJmuiden. Because of the week of Accessibility for the first time this special day "IJmond Onbeperkt" is organised in the Holiday Inn IJmuiden Seaport Beach. A day full of workshops, activities and presentations about unresticted possibilities for people with a handicap.

Visitors could participate with wheelchair basketball, workshops braille, workshops sign language, wheelchair dancing and feel what it means to have no sight in a special darkened room. Also severall organisations from and for the targetgroup where represented.
We gave five workshops of about 25 minutes.

Apart from this there where some presentations of experience experts. And Roos Prommenschenckel, ambassador 'Onbeperkt Nederland' 2006, inspired us with her story. In 2006 she was called to Mis(s) being the first woman with a visable handicap.

Although less visitors came as where expected, visitors and voluntairs where very enthousiastic.
The organisation planned to organise this day again next year.
If asked, we like to cooperate again !

Demonstration Leo Polak in Amsterdam

3 October 2007

On Wednesday 3 October SEZO organised a special market for elderly people, handicaped people and chronicle sick people in Meetingcenter Leo Polak in Amsterdam-Osdorp. Via Lidie and Peter, Walking Wheels was asked to arrange two demonstrations / workshops wheelchair dance.
This was a big succes, although it was only two times 15 minutes, the floor was full of enthousiast dancing people.

Ronald was satisfied with this first demonstration he had to take care of !

Corrie NCRV Voluntair of Noord-Holland

1 October 2007

In the radio broadcast of Monday 1 October is announced that Corrie, with 85% of all votes, has been chosen to be the voluntair who may participate in the next (national) round.
On 7 December finales will take place, but before that a new round will follow to bring 12 candidates (from every province one) to three for the finales.

Have a look at: Maak het verschil to follow the 'competition'.

Third prize in Antwerpen

29 September 2007

The same day a couple of dancers participate in a demonstration in Hoofddorp, Miranda Moleman and Ronald van Nus stood at the dancingfloor in Merksen/Antwerpen. They are the only dancers of Walking Wheels, but fortunately with support off friends of Miranda, they started in a small but well organised competition.
In a field of eight couples at amateur class 2 combi standard-dancers they end at third place! Miranda and Ronald, congratulations with this nice result at your first competition abroad.

We have a few pictures of this competion.

The full results can you find on the site of Stichting Rolstoeldansen Nederland.

Demonstration Verpleeghuis Oudshoorn, Alphen ad Rijn

27 September 2007

With eight dancers we showed up at de weekly Brinkmiddag in verpleeghuis Oudshoorn.
After a short introduction we start with an Slow waltz duo. Than it's time to activate the audience. With the Sint Bernardwaltz sitting on a chair that is successfull.
A Veleta combi brings memories back, during the Phrase Graze Mixer people clapp their hands enthousiastic and for the Slosh the first enthousiast dancers come on the floor.

After a short break, when drinks are available, we continue with a lively samba duo and a elegant Vienna Waltz combi.
The Vienna Waltz as a groupdance is attended with hugh enthousiasm, changing partner is not going that smoothly - dancers don't want to say good bye to their dancingpartner.... yelling of ole during the Fado blanquita could be heard throughout the house I believe.

After the last few notes of the Texas Waltz we talk with some of the people living here, before they are brought back to their room and before we enjoy our drink. This demonstration was not only a nice afternoon for the people of this house, but also a tribute to Laura.

We have some pictures of this afternoon.

Good bye Laura Castien

26 September 2007

At the circulaire was written:
will strength
two words
will and strength ...
at the end was left the will,
gone was the strength
take your rest
your life has been accomplished

What can we add to this, except that we will miss Laura a lot in the dancing group....

1 October 2007

Many dancers have said farewell to Laura on Sunday or Monday.
In our thougts, but as much as possible also in words and practice, we will support Danny.

Last May Ger danced for her first certificate. She was so proud she told all neighbours in Eijkenhove. Ger and her husband Rinus where a special couple in our group, they will leave an empty place at the floor.
We think about Rinus, Reinalda en Nel in this loss.

Happy Dinner

Saterday evening 11 August most dancers met each other in Sportcafe The Wissel in Hoofddorp for dinner. This supposed to take place in June but had to be postphoned till August.

After some drinks and small talk we find ourselves a table and sat down. During main course (schnitzel, sate or tungfilet) and dessert (strawberry, ice and cream) we talked a lot.

Meanwhile we use this moment to thank Meriam and Arnold for all their work at the handicap.nl collection period of many years. Also Cynthia and Ronald receive flowers and congratulations because they passed their exam last May. Around eight thirty the first taxidriver arrives and one after the other leaves. We will see each other again at September 3.

Enjoy dinner (again)? Have a look at the pictures.

Good results Handicap.nl

In the week of 11-16 June again we collected money for Handicap.nl.

This is only 100 euro less than last year. Because of all the work we do in this we got a percentage of the amount whe collected. This time we will save the money for the competiotion we planned to organise May 2008!

Freestyle succes in Woerden

12 May 2007

Twelve dancers (Meriam, Aronold, Miranda, Ronald, Cecilia, Tineke, Jan Willem, Piet, Lenie, Gerard, Lidie and Peter) instructor and two fans ride to Restarant 'De Wijde Blick' of ' werkvoorzieningschap De Sluis' in Woerden on Saterday 12 May. Together with 22 other combinations we compete at de freestyle competition, organized by De Swingende Wielen Woerden.

Together with one other team we dance in class 1; besides this -in class 2- are two other cathegories: A- all teams with two dancers; B- all teams with three dancers or more.
Because our cathegory has only two teams we dance a general look and the finals.
The first round is danced fine, Maureen is satisfied if we dance the finals like this. Due to a little uncertainty with the music Joke is sent out to find the origional music cd and we don't have pictures of the first round.

We enjoy looking at all other contributions; from streetdance, to waltz, to latin. After two different demonstrations it's time for our finals.
To be honoust de first round went better, but it's ok. Now we can only wait what the adjudicators think of it.

After a workshop Oriental dancing, which Tineke and Jan Willem attended very enthousiast, it is time for the price ceremony. foto beker We win the first price with Gipsy Roll.
All dancers receive a nice medaille from mrs Haak, representive of Gemeente Woerden. In class 2 duo-teams Caroline and Monique - The Rolling Stars- win with 'Think'. In teams three or more our favorite ' Sensation' with 'Garfield' is de winner.

All winning teams dance their dance again.

Than we say goodby to everybody. Lidie and Peter go back to the campingsite, the rest of the team celebrates the results with a meal at a Chinese restaurant in Nieuw-Vennep.

Easter weekend in Cuijk

7 & 8 April 2007

Saterday

This year Holland Dans Spektakel is back at her roots: Cuijk. Between 340 couples over two days, from 19 countries, also dancers from Walking Wheels. Today Lidie & Peter Venjakob participate in amateur class 2 combi standard.

Although they worked very hard in their first round and in the redance, this was where it ended. The spirit was strong but the body didn't want to co-operate today.
Together with couples from Amstelveen and Amsterdam and our supporters we have a nice day.

Sunday

In a field of 16 couples Miranda and Ronald managed to go through first round, demi finals and finals and earned the first prize. Also they got the title Dutch Champion in their category: debutanten combi 1. On top of all that they are promoted to the next class: amateurs!

The two couples from AMRODA (Amsterdam)where supported by us as well when dancing their competition. Marga & Wieger sticked after the redance, Paulien & Cock ended at fifth place and earned the Dutch championship title in their catogory: world cup duo 2.

After the competion we (dansers from Hoofddorp and Amsterdam and all supporters) closed this nice and successfull weekend eating in a Chinese Restaurant in Nijmegen.

Miranda and Ronald: congratulations!

Teens do practice

2 & 4 April 2007

Monday

Beside our own dancers we had 12 teens visiting us to do social practice, organized by their school and Humanitas. In the afternoon they learned how to drive an electric wheelchair or scootmobiel at Meyra. Tonight the pupils learn dancing in a wheelchair and dancing with somebody in a wheelchair.

We show the pupils a few dances and we dance several dances together with them like slosh, Aanloop-disco, Scottish Waltz and ten pretty girls. Also for our own dancers it's a rather unusual situation but together we make a great evening out of it.

Wednesday

Two days later three of our dancers join the pupils again, together with some other people with a handicap. In little groups, supplied with a photocamera, they spread out through Hoofddorp shopping center. Aim is to find obstacles for handicaped people, but also fine solutions. Not every shopkeeper was as happy to be part of this examination.

Miranda, one of our dancers, let some of the boys try to take a slope in a wheelchair. This was not as easy as they thought. They experienced the same with opening doors etc.
She enjoyed the enthousiasm and open minded questions of the kids very much. Also because the weather was perfect, they all had a great dey.

Besides some understanding what it means living with a handicap we hope these days also help to promote our hobby and sport: wheelchair dancing.

Sponsored Laptop

19 March 2007

It was a big surprice when I, before our lessons started, received a laptop which was installed with music software and all dance music I usually carry in my suitecase.

The laptop was sponsored by Omegam Laboratoria in Amsterdam and Ronald spent many hours making the laptop ready to use and dowload all my dance music to the laptop. By plugging this laptop into music equipment we have access to all our dance music, everywhere. During the lessons, but also at other training locations and at demonstrations.

Whalking Wheels is very happy with this sponsored laptop and whishes to thank Ronald and Omegam Laboratoria!

Good results in Den Bosch

10 February 2007

Three couples of Walking Wheels participated in the 'Grote Prijs van Zuid-Nederland'.
This competition was held in the Maaspoort in Den Bosch.

Via the demi-finals and finals Miranda and Ronald reached the 2nd place in Debutanten combi 2. Jan Willem and Cynthia danced the redance as well and finished on a very good 6th place in the Amateurs combi 1.
Although Arnold and Meriam worked very hard in their first rounds of Amateurs duo 1 and Amateurs combi 1 they didn't come further than the redance in both catogries.

So it was a nice and successfull day, may be because of the three supporters the couples brought to Den Bosch, may be because the instructor was not there (but in the snow)?!
;-)

Succes in Wijchen

27 January 2007

plaatje medaille The first dancing competition this year ended in a wonderfull result for our group. Miranda and Ronald danced their first competition together in debutanten combi 2 and went home with de first price!
Miranda (she danced competionion before with her mother Joke) and Ronald (competition experience in able bodied dancing) started training together last September. From the first round, with 14 couples, they where placed in de semi finales directly. Althought they danced this round less brilliant, they where alowed to start in de finales. And there they danced a great competition which resulted in a first place!

A great beginning!
Congratulations and a hug from the teacher!

Between al those competition rounds we enjoyed a streetdance demonstration (with many many kids and joungsters) and a Russian performance with typical Russian dance items. A totally different demonstration from usual, but very nice!

After this wonderfull day we (couple and supporters) return to Hoofddorp, very satisfied.

A little picture impression

New Yearsparty

14 January 2007

On Saterday evening 13 January 2007, many dancers from Walking Wheels and other groups got togehter for a party in Dancingcenter Fokker in Hoofddorp.
After a formal openingspeech from chairman Arnold, reflecting at some highlights in 2006, Maureen describes her deeper thoughts about in- and outside. Many things are not what they seem to be. Also these lighting icecubes. And this will be the same with the year 2007; which started windy and cloudy but will turn out to be a wonderfull year for all of us.

We have a nice demonstration of Bunga Mas, three ladies showing us two well-performed Java-dances. For more information see the website of Bunga Mas.

After several hours of dancing; new learned dances and special requests, the evening comes to an end at 23:30. On May 14th. we will be at this location again for our medalltest.

Enjoy the pictures.
