Where do we dance?

picture of the Aanloop-building Every Monday evening we have our lessons at

Building "De Aanloop" Kruisweg 622
Phone (+31) 23 561 4635 2132 CH Hoofddorp

To whom is wheelchair dancing meant to be?

We welcome everybody who wants to enjoy music and dance, moving on the music. Are you a wheelchair user and would you like to see if you might like dancing? Or are you an able-bodied person (i.e. partner of a wheelchair user?) and would you like to dance as a combiparter or may be like to learn dancing ìn the wheelchair?

Feel free to have a look at one of our lessons or visit an event. Please contact the instructor about this.
Age or dancing experience is not important.

    Dates

Our lessons for the new season will start on Monday 10 September 2012.
Contact the secretary for more information.

    What dances do we learn?

During the lessons we try to pleasure all participants. So we learn ballroom dances, like slow waltz, quickstep and tango; Latin American dances like samba and rumba, but also some old fashioned ballroom dances like the St. Bernards Waltz and Veleta.
Apart from that we whon't forget some country line dances and some fashionable dances.

Do I need a special wheelchair?

picture of wheelchair No, you can dance in every wheelchair; no matter if this is a manual wheelchair or an electric wheelchair. Of course dancing is going more easy in a light and easy turning wheelchair (a dancing or sport wheelchair as we call this), but this is no obligation at all.
Contact the instructor for more information about criteria for a wheelchair for dancing.

    Groups

We dance in two different groups:

First group starters / less experienced dancers 19:15 to 20:45 hrs
Second group (more) experienced dancers 20:45 to 22:15 hrs

We do duo and combi dancing.
Duo dancing: two wheelchair users form a couple, if necessary assisted by a third (and fourth) person pushing the wheelchair user.
Combi dancing: a wheelchair user and an able-bodied person form a couple.
Apart from this we also dance some solo dances (like party dances).

    Events

picture of rock'n roll couple In January traditionally we organize our New Year's Party. Invitations are sent to the participants, donors and sponsors, but also dancers throughout the whole region.

Seasons end is usually time for the medaltest. All participants are invited to show their dancing abilities to a judging-committee. This whill be honoured (if they are successful of course) with a certificate and a pin.
    Ask us for more information.

    Who are the teachers?

Lessons are given by Maureen Dijkman and Ronald van Nus with assistance of Cynthia van Nus.

Maureen is an instructor of wheelchair dance since 1995 (since 1998 approved by the ministry of VWS as well). And since 1998 she uses to be the instructor of this dancing group.
Besides this she is also an experienced adjudicator for medal tests being organized by dancing groups throughout the region. A difficult, great and honorable job.

Ronald and Cynthia have passed their exams assistant instructor of wheelchair dancing in April 2007 and Ronald can call himself instructor wheelchair dancing since April 2008, Cynthia became instructor in September 2010.
Cynthia & Ronald both have broad experience in the world of able bodied dancing, what is a beautifully additional knowledge and experience above what we build up in Walking Wheels already.

From spring 2016 on we even do have two assistent instructors: Miranda Moleman and Linda Castien. Both do assist during the monday evening lesssons. >/p>
